INFITT’s  16th Tamil Internet Conference 2017Toronto, Canada

       CALL FOR PAPERS  

The International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil (INFITT) is pleased to inform that the 16th Tamil Internet Conference 2017 will be held in the University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus in the Greater Toronto Area during August 25-27th, 2017
The INFITT annual conference is co-sponsored by the University of Waterloo Centre for Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Canada and with the support of the University of Toronto.
Research papers in all the areas of Tamil Computing are invited. We have identified two key areas for this year’s conference: Deep Learning and Data Science. In addition to these thematic areas, Conference Program Committee welcomes regular research papers on the following topics:
• Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications in Tamil, Spellchecker, Grammar checker, 
  Text Analytics/Mining, Sentiment Analysis, Speech recognition, TTS
Systems, Search engines,
  Machine Learning, Machine Translation, Data-mining, etc.
• Corpus linguistics
• OCR and Handwriting Recognition
• Tamil "enabling" in mobile platforms (smartphones, tablets, etc.) with particular emphasis for
   Tamil Apps for use on iOS, Android and Windows platforms
• Open Source Tamil software and Tamil Localization
• Computer- and online-assisted Teaching, Learning of Tamil
• Tamil content and delivery via Internet:  Blogging, microblogging, Wikipedia, Podcasting,
   social networks
• Tamil Digital Library, Digital Archiving
• Tamil Linked Data, Semantic Web, Data Science pertaining to Tamil, Tamil Ontologies,
• Learning Management Systems, Virtual Learning,

All those interested in presenting a paper at the conference are requested to submit a
2- page (A4) factual abstract, based on their research methodology and their research findings, to the Conference Program Committee at cpc2017@infitt.org  before April 15,  May 15, 2017
The abstracts can be in Tamil, English or bilingual (Tamil and English) but all abstracts must be written using Unicode encoding or Tamil All Character Encoding (TACE).
Submission of an abstract implies that at least one author of the paper will attend the conference to present the work in person. Proxy or remote presentation is not permitted
Authors of papers accepted for presentation will be informed on or before 15 May  June 15, 2017. Authors of the accepted Abstracts should submit their full papers, not less than 4 pages long and not exceeding 6 pages long, on or before 15 June  July 15, 2017.  
The Conference Proceedings will be published in printed paper format and as an e-book. Arrangements are being made to have the Conference Proceedings of the annual Tamil Internet Conferences published with an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number). ISSN will permit routine indexation of the Conference Proceedings in bibliographic databases of all leading libraries across the globe and proper referencing of the content of the Proceedings in academic journal publications.

எழுத்துச் சீர்திருத்தம் என்னும் சீரழிவுப் போக்கு

தமிழ் மொழியின் எழுத்துகளை சீர்திருத்த வேண்டும் என்று நான் மிகவும் மதிக்கும் பேராசிரியர் வா.செ.கு அவர்களும், நண்பர் கணேசன் அவர்களும் பல்லாண்டுகளாக பல இடங்களில் எழுதி வருகிறார்கள், பல ஊடகங்களில் கருத்து தெரிவித்து வருகின்றார்கள். இப் போக்கு எனக்கு மிகவும் கவலையைத் தருகின்றது. இது உண்மையிலேயே மிகவும் கெடுதி தரும், அறவே வேண்டாத போக்கு என்பது என் கருத்து. தமிழர்கள் இன்று இருக்கும் நிலையில், இப்படிப்பட்ட முயற்சிகள் தமிழுக்கு அளப்பரிய கேடு செய்யும். இது பற்றி பேரா வா.செ.கு அவர்களிடமும், கணேசனிடமும் வேறு யாருடனும் நான் கருத்துரையாட அணியமாக இருக்கின்றேன். மொழி வேறு எழுத்துரு வேறு என்று பற்பல கருத்துகள் வைப்பவர்களின் கருத்தோட்டங்களை நான் நன்கு அறிவேன். இப்போதைக்கு அண்மையில் நண்பர் கணேசன் இட்ட கீழ்க்காணும் பதிவிற்கு என் மறுமொழியைக் கீழே ஓர் இடுகையாக பதிவு செய்கிறேன். பின்னர் தேவை கருதி இது பற்றி தொடர்ந்து சில கூறுதல் வேண்டும். http://nganesan.blogspot.com/2008/05/english-medium-effect-on-tamil.html நண்பர் கணேசன், வணக்கம். நான் எத்தனையோ முறை கூறியிருக்கிறேன். தமிழ் உயிர்மெய் எழுத்துக்களில்

தமிழ்வெளி என் முதல் முயற்சி. நம் தமிழிலே பயன் பெருக்கும் அறிவியலைப் பற்றி பலரும் அழகாக எழுதுவதைக் கண்டு மிகவும் மகிழ்பவர்களில் நானும் ஒருவன். முன்னோடி வலைஞர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் என் வணக்கம். என் எண்ணங்களில் சிலவற்றைப் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள ஒரு 'ப்லா'க் வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணினேன். பல நண்பர்கள் பலகாலமாக பரிந்துரைகள் செய்து வந்தனர். இதோ துணிந்தும் விட்டேன். முதலிலே தமிழ் முறைக்கு முரண்பட்ட பிறமொழி ஒலிகளைக் குறிக்க ஒரு நல்ல முறை வேண்டும். ஏனெனில் இவ்வகை ஒலிகள் பல இடங்களில் ஆள வேண்டிய கட்டாயம் ஏற்படுகின்றது. Blog என்னும் சொல்லையே எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். இதில் வரும் b, g ஆகிய இரண்டு ஒலிகளும் தமிழ் முறைப்படி எழுத இயலாது. ப்லாக் என்று எழுதினால் plaak என்றுதான் ஒலிக்க வேண்டும். இது ஏதோ பல்லுக்கு வரும் கோளாரோ என்று எண்ண நேரிடும் b என்பதைக்குறிக்க ப் என்னும் மெய் எழுத்துக்கு முன்னதாக ஒரு சிறு குறி இடலாம். இதனை முன்கொட்டு என்று நான் கூறுகிறேன். எடுத்துக்காட்டாக 'ப் = b ga என்னும் ஒலியைக் குறிக்க ககரத்தின் முன்னே ஒரு முன்கொட்டு இடலாம்.
